Microsoft’s new Office app arrives on iOS and Android with mobile-friendly features

Microsoft is releasing its new unified Office app for iOS and Android today, which combines Word, Excel, and PowerPoint into a single application. The software maker first started beta-testing this new Office app as a hub for all things Office mobile back in November, and now, anyone can download and install it. Microsoft has focused on surfacing some of the more mobile-friendly parts of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint into quick actions that let you get stuff done on the go.

All of the main apps are combined, meaning you can switch between documents quickly, scan PDFs, and even capture whiteboards, text, and tables into digital versions. Microsoft is also adding support for third-party cloud storage like Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud. Today’s release will also be available on Android tablets with “limited support,” and a fully optimized tablet experience will be available on both iPadOS and Android soon.

Windows 10 Tips – Default Printer

blog_ms_news

With the introduction of Windows 10, there was a new feature added that might drive you nuts. “Let Windows Manage Your Default Printer” – This feature will automatically change your default printer to the last one used. If you only have one printer, it really does not matter; but if you have multiple printers it could create more time choosing printers than you need to.

This is switched on by default so if your printer default printer keeps changing on you, which is driving you up the wall simply turn it off.

Click your windows key or the windows icon (bottom left of taskbar), choose the settings/gear icon and then devices. Down at the bottom below your listed printers, you will find the option to turn it off or on. Make your choice and close the window, you can turn it back on by repeating the same steps.

Here is a screen shot of that window.2016-09-09

Windows Key + R Scam

news_security

There is a growing problem with scam phone calls going around. You may get bogus calls telling you that your computer is infected and you need to press the Windows + R key or you could loose all your data. What this does is open the Run command on your PC and they will have run a command to clean it, but what they are doing is infecting your PC with malware and locking your PC down. What they plan on doing is holding your system ransom until you pay them.

No one is going to call you out of the blue and tell or ask you these things, be smart. Hang up the phone, if you have the ability to block the number do it. You could always tell them you are running a Mac, Linux box or Chrome book which all have no Windows keys.
